Black’s Martial Arts Academy was established in 1995 by Master Thomas Black. While the school began in Du Quoin, it was moved to Carbondale in 2000. In 2004, the school moved to its present location in Bowen Gym. The school is located in the 12,000 square foot south east wing of Bowen Gym. It has a fully padded floor and a retail shop.
Our students have the opportunity to compete in tournaments at state, national, and international levels. Each summer our school hosts the the Southern Illinois Open in Bowen Gym.
We offer day camps during school breaks, the summer months, and for tournament training. These camps are open to children and adults. Private lessons can be scheduled with Master Black.
Dr. Thomas Black, 10th Dan, is the owner and master instructor of Black’s Martial Arts Academy. He is certified through the Kukkiwon, and USNTF. All of the school’s instructors are certified black belts.
